Last night we went to see the "Back to the future" trilogy at the Aero theater. I've always loved those movies, but i forgot how good they are. They completely hold up, and don't seem dated at all like most movies from the 80's. 7 hours flew by! I also forgot how much I absolutely LOVE Michael J Fox! How could you not!
My friend Mandy made these about a month ago and they are so much fun. I took them to a bbq last weekend and wowed some non-vegan folks.
The recipe is from Julie Hasson on Everyday Dish. You can watch her make them here:
Spicy Italian Vegetarian Sausages
Makes 8 links (or if rolled thin like hotdogs, makes 14)
2 1/4 cups vital wheat gluten
1/2 cup nutritional yeast flakes
1/4 cup chickpea flour
2 tbsp Bills Best Chik’Nish Seasoning (if using another brand which is
salty, or saltier than Bill’s Best, you’ll want to greatly reduce the
amount you use) *****I use BRYANNA'S HOMEMADE VEGAN "CHICKEN-STYLE" BROTH POWDER (scroll down)
2 tbsp granulated onion
1 to 2 tbsp fennel seed, optional
2 tsp coarsely ground pepper, preferably freshly ground
2 tsp ground paprika
1 tsp dried chili flakes, optional **Use 1/2 tsp if your sensitive to spice**
1 tsp ground smoked paprika
1/2 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp ground allspice
2 1/4 cups cool water*
6 to 8 cloves garlic, minced or pressed ***I used 2 tsp of crushed garlic**
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp soy sauce ***I use my faux soy sauce***
1. In a large bowl, mix together all of the dry ingredients. Whisk
together the water, garlic, olive oil and soy sauce and using a fork,
gently stir into the dry ingredients. Stir just until ingredients are
mixed. If dough mixture is too dry, you can add another tablespoon of
water or as needed.
2. Scoop 1/2 cup dough mixture at a time and
shape into logs. Place logs on piece of aluminum foil and roll up,
twisting ends. Place sausages in steamer and steam for 30 minutes. Once
sausages have cooled, remove from foil and refrigerate until ready to
eat. After cooling, the sausages may feel a bit dry on the outside.
Don’t worry, as they will soften and firm up considerably after
chilling.
Variation: You can shape the dough into little patties instead of links. If you don’t want to use aluminum foil, you can wrap the links in damp muslin or tea towel and tie ends with cotton twine.
Here is the end result...now grab a bun, and all the toppings, and it is one tasty meal! I also like to slice and dip them...or chop them up and make a sausage taco!
Next, I'd like to try different flavors. Mandy shaped them into circles and did a hamburger flavor for a camping trip.
Michael and I will never be rejected from valet again! Seriously, we were rejected with our 93 rusted out camry. But with our Prius, the valet will take us, and it will never rain Inside the car again...yes, when it rains outside it also rains inside the camry.
She is so pretty! We are ridiculously excited about her:)
...or at least my diet!
I already love using coconut oil to cook with AND to use as a night cream. See Here.
I've been loving the Turtle Mountain So Delicious Coconut milk yogurt. It's vegan, gluten-free and soy-free!
AND
For dessert....Bliss Coconut ice cream.
Luna & Larry's Coconut Bliss named #1
on VT's Veg 25 hot list for 2009!
...that's Vegetarian times for those who don't know...
or...The So Delicious Mini Ice cream bar. Couldn't find a link...but they are at whole foods.
This ice cream is better than Hagen Daz, or Ben and Jerry's....or at least better than my memory of those:)
Michael's sister was visiting this weekend and we took by friend Mandy's Yoga class on sat. It was supposed to be in a studio but apparently her contact goofed this week and it was unavailable....which turned out to be great! We walk to the beach and she taught class there. It was a beautiful sunny day with a nice breeze to we didn't feel too hot. I loved going into downward dog because that was the only time i could open my eyes and see the most gorgeous blue sky and palm trees.
I am definitely still in my honeymoon phase with living here:)
Afterwards we went to AXE for brunch and not only had a great meal, but also had the best almond milk latte ever!
They make their own almond milk...i bet that had a lot to do with it!
Sunday we went to my future sister-in-law's baby shower! I'm very excited to soon be an auntie:)
In my search for vegan, all natural face lotion, face wash and a physical, chemical free daily uva/uvb face lotion.....i've come to love Keys-Soap.
Every other daily physical sunscreen I've tried feels greasy and the zinc won't rub in leaving me with white all over my face...
After only one summer in LA I have a couple sun spots on my face...and i even use SPF everyday! Apparently, the avocado oil in Keys soap sunblock will help fade those away. I haven't been using is very long so we'll see if mine fade.
Here is a link to a description of Chemical vs. Physical suncreens.
I also love their foaming face wash ...I gave one to my mom for Christmas and she loves it as well. It's really soft on your skin and smells delicious:)
You can check here for where to buy.
wow,...I am a walking ad for these guys!
I haven't sung in front of anyone since 2003. I was a little nervous, but it was absolutely thrilling to sing again.
My parents flew in and they were beaming with excitement to see the show and meet everyone at the after party....they stayed out till 2:15! I think that's a first for them.
Michael ( who had a touch of a flu) also drove up with Corey and toughed it out, gambling together at various casinos before the show....
Here are a few pics of the show and after party:
Gorilla Food is an amazing raw food cafe in downtown Vancouver near Gastown. With my new soy allergy, this cafe is a savior! No soy anyway in the building! Yesterday I had a delicious Banana-blueberry-kale smoothie, a maui waui pizza, and a gorrilla kale salad. So tasty!
Congrats Ms. Niven! LOVE you on Mad Men and I love your apartment. I'm glad Deborah Lipp gave us read more
on oooh! What's that on my ring finger?
